Would religion be of any use once we attain the capability of interstellar transport?

Let’s say we build a big spaceship and we set off towards the nearest likely destination knowing that it will take a long time to get there and knowing that the present generation ship population probably won’t be alive long enough to see their destination. If the occupants are aware that they are just keeping the population ticking over until they get somewhere, this probably wouldn’t be a productive living environment for humans. So would religion be a good way of keeping them occupied?
