How can i make it less painfull?

me and me bf started dating the end of my junior year we have been together for 8 months now and i really "want" him but im a little afraid it will hurt really bad. my girlfriends say it will cuz of his size (11 inches) but idk i have never done it. im ready and i was wondering if anyone has any sugestions on how to make it easyer.
